List of Updates for VMK's section
I know things can be extremely busy come workdays and social lifes, but I also know all the workers here really want to see this wiki come to life, so I have created a list of what needs to be created or edited. That way we can work on finishing this thing, and then start to polish and make it look great, so far everyone is doing an amazing job. With that being said, lets begin.- Remember important things are in the boxes, most of which the entire section needs to be created!
- The things in Bold, are the things we need created.
- Also as we edit these things on the list, please make sure to leave the titles, just delete what you did. That way we don't over edit each other. Now let's get to work! :) :(
History of VMK
We need created a Disney, Beta Testing and Pictorial Guide of Beta Furniture.- The timeline needs to be continuously updated
- Disney section- I think information about the studios that created VMK. I did a little research and it seems that the WDPRO had alot to do with it, so lets look for that.
- I've moved the Beta Testing, the Beta Furniture, and the Start of Public Testing (which was really a Beta Testing page) links out of this section and make them items in the Timeline.
- Beta Testing- I think with this, lets get some personal accounts and stories of the first days, maybe add some screenshots of the happenings, popular things, and the cool rooms, I do remember having the first ever Haunted Mansion, i'll look later for some pictures. Right now it is just a link to the furniture and the Public Testing pages. (It could be argued that we should move all the Public Testing stuff into the Beta Testing page, and redirect as appropriate, but I coudln't get the redirection to happen when I tried. (Prisoner))
- Beta Furniture- I know LSpin has a pictorial guide of Discontiuned furniture, however its not just Beta, its everything. If someone wants to go through and pick just Beta out, now you have a place to put it.
Starting Off
I've combined "Creating an Account" and "Starting Off" into "The Basics", which will serve as a starting point to learn about the fundamental things of the game, and to reinforce the VMK Rules and Values. (Prisoner 07:44, 20 July 2006 (CDT))
We need created a First Time PLayers, Chatting in Game, and Editing Prefrences.
- Creating an Account pages - This is real basic, because well you can't have too much about this, so the only thing that needs work is the Creating your avatar. My plan for this page was to get screenshots of the first time you logged in. Remember the choosing of name, character, signature things like that. Lets get a pictorial guide for the newer users! Thats all I can think of for this
- First Time Players- is basically a check list of what players need to get used to doing each day, and maybe putting some of those Cast Member tips found on the newsletter.
- Chatting in game- Real simple page, just a paragraph of ways to get used to the dictionary, some rules about the chatting, and using the smiley faces, and emoticons.
- Editing Prefrences- I always had trouble at first changing things about the game, well lets make it easier for others, screenshots of ways to mute vmk, change it from a popup to a full screen (using firefox) things like that.
I've created a link to a VMK: Friends and Messages page (which needs to be created) because this hasn't been mentioned anywhere! I also think we should move some of the other sections into "Starting Off" and provide links off those pages. (Prisoner 10:55, 27 July 2006 (CDT))
Inventory
We need created Furnishings, Pins and Clothing.- Furnishings- basically the run down of how to take them out of your inventory and place them in guest rooms, trade requests and how to sell them.
- Clothing- Clothes that are not costumes, need to go here in a nice fashion.
Shops
We need created Star Traders, Its a Small world Imports and Golden Horseshoe.- For future refrence look at the Neds and Emporium for the layout, just copy and paste and then change the information and pictures.
- Also the Emporium needs Pin pictures and information
- Also Ned's needs Posters, Pins and Specials.
We need to keep this section updated pretty often, as things change almost daily.
Exploring VMK
We need created Tomorrowland, Fantasyland and Main Street.- I really like how Adventureland and Frontierland were created so lets keep that layout, however we need more information added those 2. and maybe more screenshots.
VMK Dictionary
We need the Dictionary constantly updated because certain words may be taken out, and new ones might be added.
Games
ALL GAMES DONE EXCEPTING HYPERSPACE MOUNTAINIn-game Quests
We need more on creating your own quests- Anyone can type out the instructions.
I have completed this guide. -Maribeth
Other Quests
- The Other quests that are avaible by the "Q" button need to be added.
- Perhaps someone should add a section for special quests, including the ones from the recent event.
Magic Pins
We need created, Combining Magic Pins.- We also need in Obtaining magic pins, pictures for Storm, Pirate Magic, Buried in Treasure, Snowman, Fireworks, TICMP (Turn into Coral Magic Pin), and Inferno as well as coming soon pictures of the Treasure Detector Magic.
I am working on these at all possible times. ;) I am making the templates as we have already amassed the pictures requested above. Thanks and send me a message if you would like to question me about the magic pin work mentioned above. --Alexthedragon 18:09, 1 February 2007 (CST)
Trading
''' We need all of this section created!!'''
Special Events
I've deleted this section completely. The pages still exist, and are now links from the relevant dates as part of the Timeline page (Prisoner 07:30, 17 July 2006 (CDT))In park Quests
We need created Quests, and Locations- Quests- Just a generalization of why VMK offers Quests, maybe mention Advergaming and of course awesome prizes.
- Locations- lets get some pictures of the VMK Central,(never been, so that will have to be by someone else, I noticed the darkbeer blog, had some great photos, maybe we can contact him for the usage.)
- Also Pirates needs the History updated
- And lets get some Pictures for the 50th Celebration Quest, we have them on the forums.
- Beginning to develop a streamlined quest page design, using actual in-game inventory images to depict the prizes. Thrill Seekers and 50th were added. I simplified the Holiday and Tomorrowland Quest, working on HM and Pirates next. Thanks Nedakh 21:44, 17 April 2006 (CDT)
Guest Rooms
Looking good so far, but we need created Placing Furniture, Editing Options, Using Boot Option- Placing Furniture- Guide to placing furniture with of course pictures
- Editing Options- Explain the process and why some words aren't accepted.
- Using Boot Option- main thing, is lets please clear up that booting will NOT get you banned, or in trouble with the staff.
* I think we should leave the Guest Rooms to Priz, he's doing a great job with the Guest Room Maps, so i think Guest Room Catalog and Maps is for Priz only.
- I have updated the room titles to reflect the actual titles in VMK. Added avatar-free images of the various guest room styles and reorganized the page layout with a simplified listing. I'll leave the room mapping to Priz, a few still need them. Thanks! Nedakh 21:42, 17 April 2006 (CDT)
- Should I create a VMK Pass and VMK Tickets page? I think it would help new players and old. --GreenKman 19:25, 10 January 2007 (CST)
Hidden Mickeys
'''All of Hidden Mickeys needs creating!'''
New here and already working!
I have only just started and Priz has been a good source of info. He and I are talking about designing the inventory pages (furniture, etc.) I have several examples of things I have done in both the shops and the posters sections. (including possible tables and such)
I have redone the timeline. I hope that it is acceptable. If provides for a more clear organization. As people add things to the bottom of each month it is easy to see the format used (or I could do it!)
Also, I have added the actual quests for the Adventureland quest page. I have tried a "mousehover" option for the first question only that allows you to know which answers are correct or not. Is this an option that we want?
I do like the idea of maintaining my "Furniture and Accessories" list here rather than in the forums, though.
~SpinMarty
I just discovered templates, which I think will help with a number of things. SpinMarty - before you do any more editing of the inventory pages, talk to me. Prisoner 13:09, 15 August 2006 (CDT)
little icons
Do we really want these little icons that Ducky Wucky is adding? I find them visually... cluttering.
--Prisoner 08:52, 26 October 2006 (CDT)
They are neat, but you're right - "visually cluttering". It would be best to stick with a simple layout, easy to understand. --Schmoofy 09:33, 26 October 2006 (CDT)
I'm so sorry you two, I didn't mean to make any clutter around here, I just thought I would kind of try it all out, see how the icons look. So i'm very sorry, I should have asked you before I added those. I'll remove them right away. PS: Do you want me to remove the gardening icon in the Toontown section also? --Ducky Wucky 03:13, 26 October 2006 (CST)
I don't think you need to remove it. Here on the VMK side of the wiki, there's a TON of information to be compiled, unlike TT (still lots of info, but not as much). They can have the extras ;) --Schmoofy 15:56, 26 October 2006 (CDT)
Guest Help
Sometimes while I'm playing VMK I help new guests in the Esplanade. I'm wondering if I could put this in the wiki. I doubt I will but I want to know because at one point I hope to hold a Guest-Help-A-Thon. Hope someone can answer this. --GreenKman 00:19, 13 January 2007 (CST)
I'm not sure what you're looking to add here. So far, our policy has been to capture "official" stuff that VMK does, as well as some widely held observations, practices, and help information. If you want to post the information from your help-a-thon, that would likely be good. If you want to post that you run the help-a-thon, that would be more appropriate for the forums. The Wiki should be fact-based and as unopinionated and non-personal as possible. --Prisoner 07:20, 13 January 2007 (CST)
Future of VMK
How about a Future of VMK section? A place to put pictures of un-released costumes or lands that COULD be made. Are we trying to get the wiki official of what has been DONE, or some things too that show what COULD happen. --StitchMadMy personal opinion, but I don't think we should let the wiki become a place for random speculation or the "arts and creativity" section of the forum. I don't object to a "future of VMK" section, but it should be limited to things that we have "proof" of. For example, once upon a time we had pictures from the insider tour about what might be released eventually, or pictures from the Gallery discussing what future items might be. We have a few items that we don't have pictures for and which haven't been released yet, and this might be a good place for them. But to use another example, I think it would be a bad idea if when Yavn indicated there would be a new land, if we used the "Future of VMK" section to begin speculating about what that land might be. Or if we used it to create edited pictures of what we think a costume or new color item might look like. Lets stick to facts. --Prisoner 05:23, 19 March 2007 (CDT)
So something that would go in this section would be items we have seen, such as the Shield Table and Jungle Book Throne, but not yet released?
Another good example, yes. (At least in my opinion) --Prisoner 13:07, 19 March 2007 (CDT)
Interesting. I'll look through my files. --StitchMad
Ride-a-thons
Right now, all the ride-a-thons are compacted into one page, the host rooms. The latest "Think Green" ride-a-thon is to be updated to the wiki? Or does that just fall into the section of the host rooms? In my opinion, on the main wiki page there should be: Host rooms - Ride-a-thons - Think Green / Everest. In those could be pictures and prize info. Not sure if this would clutter it more though? --StitchMadI'm confused about what you're saying. Currently, most of the ride-a-thons are mentioned on the Special Events page, which then link to a more detailed page (such as the Space Ride-a-thon). (And I'm about to do the same with the Green Ride-a-thon.) (Prisoner 07:05, 24 March 2007 (CDT))
I've never even seen that page. Hehe. Thanks for telling me. --StitchMad
Credits as quest prizes
If a quest prize was 200 credits. I think we should have a picture of "credits" with a number amount on it of how many credits you won. I know credits cannot be seen as an inventory picture, but something close to some coins or something, with "200" written over it, to show that another of the prizes was credits. We have the {{credits}} macro that prints the number in the Item column. Feel free to figure out how to put a picture there with a number on it. {: --Prisoner 11:40, 15 June 2007 (CDT)
Inventory Pictures
I acquired some beta furniture today, including a Purple Pirate Piano and the Green Tea Cup. I was wondering if you would want updated pictures on the wiki. Right now the inventory pictures on the wiki are what they were a year ago, and they have changed so they are zoomed out (and you can see the full item). Do you want me to add those? --StitchMadI believe we had this conversation a while back when it was changed, but it was regarding the underwater organs and I'm not sure where you could find the conversation to continue it. Try contacting SpinMarty or Prisoner. --Schmoofypage|talk 16:41, 14 July 2007 (CDT)
I have just about photographed all the new inventory photos (with the full item in the photo.) I don't have the green teacup so that would be good (I have everything else.) When uploading it, however, do not replace it over the first photo. Instead upload it it as itemname2.jpg (don't forget the "2" - I have plans for both photo sets is why.) --SpinMarty 16:46, 14 July 2007 (CDT)
Okay Thanks Schmoofy and Spin, I'll do that when VMK Opens. --StitchMad
Got the pic up for you Spin. Image:Teacupseatgreen2.JPEG --StitchMad
Shopping Page
Is there a shopping page in the wiki someplace? I've looked around and there seems there isn't much info on shopping in general. For example you must go to each store at least once, to have the shop appear in your shop list. There are other things that we could put in it as well. --CL_Haveamagicladay
This sounds like some of the basic information that is actually missing. I've added a todo on the Toolbar page about it. --Prisoner 04:32, 25 September 2007 (CDT)
Should we make a new page, work on it, and when it's done add it the the basics part of vmk? --CL_Haveamagicalday
I would say add it to the Toolbar page where indicated. If it starts getting too long - then we might think about making a new page. But lets start there. --Prisoner 18:57, 25 September 2007 (CDT)
VMK Site Page
Should we have a VMK Site Page section? Showing what is where, and how to get to stuff? It would be a lot of work though, so probably nothing to rush to. --CL_Haveamagicalday
VMK vs. Virtual Magic Kingdom
My question is, why do we use VMK's abbreviation for the page name, rather than the game's actual name? --Scootz 17:47, 1 November 2007 (CDT) (Talk | contribs)
It should be Virtual Magic Kingdom. :) --Xiaolin 17:51, 1 November 2007 (CDT)
Because Disney does. Consider, for example [www.vmk.com] (both the URL and what is on the page itself). For a quick count, I see "Virtual Magic Kingdom" used twice, and "VMK" (including the logo) used twenty times. Furthermore, we redirect from one page to the other, so its not like it would make searching any better or anything. With so much else to do, it seems like it would be a change for no good reason. My opinion - why bother? :) --Prisoner 07:48, 10 November 2007 (CST)
Yes, but it's still the real name for the game. VMK is just an abbreviation. We didn't use POTCO instead of Pirates of the Caribbean Online, did we? --Scootz 07:53, 1 December 2007 (CST) (Talk | contribs)
If it is the "real name" of the game... then why doesn't Disney use it more? --Prisoner 08:47, 1 December 2007 (CST)
Well, they use to do commercials on it, and they called it Virtual Magic Kingdom. Also, when you type in virtualmagickingdom.com it brings you right there. I think it should be switched to Virtual Magic Kingdom. --CL_Haveamagicalday
There is no good reason to make the change. There are several reasons why one is clearly as good as the other. There is even evidence that "VMK" may be better than the full name. Leaving it as VMK is certainly as professional as changing it. Leave it as is. We have so many other things to work on why are we bothering with even discussing this? --Prisoner 12:30, 1 December 2007 (CST)
Special Events
Ok, here is what is bothering me. The Special Events page cannot be accessed any way apart from searching it. There is a lot of information linked from that page, for example the royal ride-a-thon, and the waterpark slide competition. Maybe we should consider having a link on the main page, that leads to host rooms. In here could be information on hosts, ride-a-thons, ride competitions etc. For example, if I wanted to get information on the space room competition. I could click host rooms, room competitions, and then to space ride competition. On the host rooms page there would be an option to choose which page to go to next. Ride or room. Host Rooms > Ride-a-thon > Royal Ride-a-thonOverall, I just do not feel that the information on the Special Events page can be accessed very easily. I know that I sometimes want information on events, and I can't find it. Anyone else agree? --StitchMad
Many of the special events aren't host competitions. Otherwise, I think its a great idea. Perhaps a link to the events page from the "history of VMK" section on the top page? Or from the top of the timeline? I'd say go ahead and add extra links where you think they make sense. (And just for the record, I count 21 pages that link to special events). --Prisoner 09:43, 22 December 2007 (CST)
New Years 2008 Page?
Should we create a page for today? We can talk about what was given, messages, and the party? --Haveamagicalday
Sure, it should go under Special Events. I have been taking a photo of the messages from staff. --SpinMarty 23:17, 31 December 2007 (CST)
So have I until I got off, but I think there are some on the forums, we can ask to use if we don't have them all :) --Haveamagicalday
VMK Messages
If the content/page was deleted should we remove it from the VMK main page?--Nick hms 10:27, 25 January 2008 (CST)
Yes, it should :). I removed it from the list. When a page is deleted, there's no need for it on other pages, in most cases :). Thanks for asking :). --Haveamagicalday (Talk | Contributions) 10:31, 25 January 2008 (CST)
Symbols Key Page
Should we have a page for what certain symbols/letters mean? If somebody saw a purple Q, or the gray U for example, they might not know what it means. There are other symbols we use, and abbreviations, that people may not be sure about. --Haveamagicalday (Talk | Contributions) 20:19, 28 February 2008 (CST)
I thought we had talked about this on the forum, but I can't find the thread. This is a reasonable idea - you might have noticed that there is a link that says "Legend" at the bottom of my new item table thats in the sandbox at the moment. Perhaps start a thread on the forum to discuss this further? --Prisoner 05:56, 29 February 2008 (CST)
VMK's Closing and the Wiki
Now that VMK is finally closing down, what'll happen to the VMK side of the wiki? -- Scootz 17:59, 7 April 2008 (PDT)
PPR Tiny Tree?
This item is in "it's a small world" Imports special section, but I don't see it on here, did the name change or something, or did we miss it before? --Haveamagicalday (Talk | Contributions) 15:42, 22 April 2008 (PDT)
Opened/Closed Templates?
At some point, this isn't a big concern at the moment, should we have a template to put on the Disney Games (VMK for now) of when it opened for the public and when it, if it does, close? --Haveamagicalday (Talk | Contributions) 17:59, 27 May 2008 (PDT)
Continuing to Expand
Maybe we could continue to expand on existing topics, such as items? I think it would be kind of cool to have all the rotations of every single item in VMK. And I DO know that VMK is closed. --GreenKman 16:03, 22 July 2008 (PDT)
This is a task that many of the currently active VMK editors have been tirelessly working on. If you check out the Recent Changes and the VMK Current Projects you will see that the VMK side has been and is still exanding. Just today I have continued to upload many item rotation images and have been revamping our event information. Even though VMK has closed its gates, we are still working to preserve the memory of VMK and make our VMK game guide as complete as possible. If you wish to help us with the many projects we have going, please contact me personally so we can find a project for you to work on. --UpInTheAir 16:21, 22 July 2008 (PDT)
I would love to help out in my free time! Just tell me what I can do. ;) --GreenKman 17:04, 22 July 2008 (PDT)
Room Audio
I have a large collection of the VMK room audio. I was wondering if we would want to embed any of it on here. Thanks for reading. :) --GreenKman 13:48, 23 July 2008 (PDT)
We have talked about that and, last I understood, want to do that. The problem that I have discovered with audio/video is playback. .Ogg is the format for wikis and we have .flv as well. I haven't been able to get either to work yet. -- SpinMarty 14:07, 23 July 2008 (PDT)
I can obtain both of them. I could also create a Flash audio player if necessary. --GreenKman 14:19, 23 July 2008 (PDT)
Like I mentioned - I haven't been able to get them to work. Check out the Club Penguin Snowbox to see. If you can get them going, then go for it! Test in the VMKWiki Sandbox (or the Club Penguin Snowbox) before adding anything to a page so that we can see what is working or not. :) -- SpinMarty 14:38, 23 July 2008 (PDT)
I've always loved the idea of incorporating sounds from VMK onto the wiki. This is something that has been discussed before and I know that we have many different users from VMKF who have offered to provide sounds for us once we were at a point where we could include them here. I'm not quite sure we are at this point yet, but if this is something you would be interested in trying to figure out and play with, I don't see any harm in that. If you could limit your testing to the VMKWiki Sandbox that would be great. I'll be happy to discuss format/logistics/organization etc of the sounds on the pages if it looks like adding these sounds will be possible. Please keep me up to date on your progress and let me know how things are going. If it gets to the point where we need to get any missing sounds, I'm sure we can find some VMKF users to help.--UpInTheAir 16:02, 23 July 2008 (PDT)
