Furnishings
| Once you acquire a room (either winning one or purchasing one) you will want to furnish it. What you place in your room will depend on what purpose your room is for. However, whatever you decide you have many choices of furnishings. See each section for a comprehensive list of what is available, cost, and how to acquire it. Remember, too, that most items are also tradable. In addition, some furniture has been grouped onto the Holiday/Event/Theme page for reference and grouping purposes. |
Placing Furniture
To place a piece of furniture into one of your guest rooms, first click on the chair symbol on your toolbar to pull up the inventory screen. Under the furnishing tab, choose a piece of furniture to put in your room. After clicking on your selected furniture, its image should appear above the "Sell" and "Place" buttons on the right of the inventory screen. Click "Place" and then drag the selected piece of furniture to wherever you wish to put it in your room. There are some areas in each of the guest rooms where furniture cannot be placed. See the Guest Room Catalog and Maps for help with usable space. Remember, you can only put furniture in your room, not in anyone else's room, or in public rooms. |
Rearranging and Removing Your Furniture
| To rearrange or remove the furniture in your room, first click the room information symbol (shaped as an i) on the left side of your toolbar and make sure you have the box next to Furnishing Mode is checked off. Then click on the item you want to rearrange or remove, this may sometimes prove difficult if other items or characters are in the way. Clicking on the item will bring up a menu and give you the ability to "Rotate", "Move", or "Take Away" the item. To keep the item in the same spot but change the direction it faces, use the "Rotate" button. To move, click move and drag the item to another spot in the room. By clicking the "Take Away" button the item will be removed from your room and put back into your inventory. |
Allowing Others to Move and Rotate Your Furniture
On 3 April 2007, the option of allowing other players to move and rotate furniture within another player's guest room was introduced. In order for players to be able to move your furniture, this option must first be turned on. In order to activate this option, click on the piece of furniture you wish to be movable. Click the button labeled "Item Info". This will bring up the item information window. In this window, click the box entitled "Let guests move this item".Now when players enter your room, by clicking on a piece of furniture where this option is activated, they will see a furniture menu that allows them to move, rotate, or view item information on the particular piece of furniture. The option to "Take Away" the furniture is NOT active for guests.

How do we want to go about this? I know the shops are still in progress, and they include most furniture.
Personal opinion - I think the items should be listed here and not necessarily in the shops. Justification - there is lots of furniture that one can't get from the shops and needs to be listed somewhere, and listing it centrally is best. If there is a question, of course, we can make links between the two. As for format - I think using a format similar to what VMK does in the newsletter might be a clever idea. So you're saying, making different sections such as... "quest furn, retired furn, buyable furn, etc"? Using the format from the newsletter for each different item would be huge, but the quest cards have that thing too. We could use the ones the newsletter already had, and the quest cards that way.
I don't know about the sections. (Furniture can move from retired to unretired, for example.) But possibly something like that. Perhaps divide it by theme (pirates, tiki, uh...) or function (chairs, tables, carpets, dividers, stuff)? Perhaps not as verbose as the newsletter, but if there is information to be had, we should provide it (say which chairs can be stacked and which can't, for example. how to acquire. I don't think the "nickname" is necessarily something useful, but we don't need pictures of the red, cyan, and yellow tiki - perhaps just show one and mention there are three colors?) (I dunno... I'm just brainstorming possible ideas. :) ) (Prisoner 14:27, 28 July 2006 (CDT))
