Description
Main Street Magic Shop Checkers is a 2 player checkers game with a twist! Both players start with 12 game pieces. One player has blue pieces and the other player has red pieces. The player with the blue pieces starts, and then the players alternate turns. Moves are allowed diagonally on the coloured tiles, so pieces never touch the white board tiles. Normally game pieces are limited to moving towards their opponent's end of the gameboard and cannot move backwards. A normal move may only move one tile.
Game pieces can make capturing moves by jumping over an opponent's pieces, landing on a free tile behind the opponent's piece. Captured pieces are removed from the game board. Normally, game pieces can capture only one piece per jump, however, multiple sequential jumps are allowed if there is an opportunity to do so. Sequential jumps are optional and players can quit their turn after a jump even if there was an opportunity to do sequential jumps.
Game pieces reaching the opponent's end of the game board become "magic hats". Hat pieces can move both forwards and backwards and get 2 moves per turn.
The player who first makes the opponent unable to move is the winner. Usually it is because all the opponent's game pieces have been captured, but it could also be because all of the opponent's pieces are blocked and cannot move.
Starting the Game
The game can be started in 3 different ways.
- Go to Main Street Magic Shop. Click on the poster on the wall sayng "Play". A window with a "Play Now" button will open. Click on the button and you'll be taken into a game room and seated on a "game seat" if there is one free. If there was already an opponent waiting for you in the room the game will start. If there is no one already sitting on your opponent's game seat, the next player clicking on the "Play Now" button will be seated there and the game will start. Also, anyone in the room can climb on to the seat and start playing with you.
- You can also just walk into the game rooms, watch games being played, and when a seat becomes available climb on and start playing. Walk into the game rooms through the door which says "game rooms" in Main Street Magic Shop. Each game seat has a little queue area next to it. Enter the queue area and you'll be playing in no time. The players currently playing will only be allowed to play once if there are players waiting their turn in the queue area.
- Everyone playing the game for the first time will receive a pin called Magic Checkers Pin. Players wearing the Magic Checkers Pin can be challenged to play checkers with you. To challenge someone wearing the pin, check their pin lanyard and double click on their Magic Checkers Pin. The challenged player gets can accept or decline the challenge. If the challenged player accepts, you'll be both taken on to a checkers room and the game will start automatically.
Playing the Game
You have 30 seconds to make your move when it is your turn, and there is a counter at the top of the screen indicating how much time you have left. If you do not move by the end of the timer, the computer will move for you.
When it is your turn, you click on the piece you want to move. The squares it can move to are then shown, and you can click on one of them to complete the move. If you change your mind, you can click on another piece instead.
If you are moving a "hat" piece, after the first move, you can click it again to move it a second time.
If you are "double jumping", you can click on the piece again to indicate that you're jumping again.
Magic
Magic may be used up to eight times per person in a game, if they have purchased enough magic to use. Each use counts as a turn.

How to Use the Magics
- Magic Checkers Levitation Single Use - This magic is used by first activating it by either double clicking it from the magic button on your Toolbar or saying the magic word, in this case Levitate! Once the magic is activated it can do one of two things: Show an error message saying you cannot play this magic right now, or you will be able to use the magic. To use this magic you need to find a piece of yours on the game board that can jump more than one of the opposing colors in a straight line, such as a red jumping over two blue that are right next to each other in a line. This is an extremely handy tool when you think you are trapped on the edge of the board. Please note that you can only jump two opposing pieces with this magic, nothing more.
- Magic Checkers Sleight of Hand Single Use - This magic is used by first activating it by either double clicking it from the magic button on your Toolbar or saying the magic word, in this case Sleight! Once the magic is activated it can do one of two things: Show an error message saying you cannot play this magic right now, or you will be able to use the magic. To use this magic you need to find a piece of yours that is next to an opposing color. You can then click your piece followed by the opposing piece to switch their places. This is an extremely handy tool when close to getting a "hat" piece.

After your first game, win or lose, you will get the Magic Checkers Pin. Initially the pin shows no level, but when you win for the first time, the pin will start to show its level.
