Download
You can download mIRC from http://mirc.com/get.htmlThe current version of mIRC is 6.31
Starting up
Once you have mIRC downloaded, bring it up. You will get a window that is titled “About mIRC”. Ignore this window, it will say something about registering mIRC or continuing on a trial. Click continue. Even after 30 days is up, you can still click continue.
Next is getting a gamesurge account. On http://www.gamesurge.net/createaccount/ you can create your account for gamesurge. Make sure you use a valid e-mail address, as to the account information will be sent to you by means of that.
Editing Options
Now to edit your options. To edit your mIRC options, click the second button on the top left of the mIRC window. Click this, and you will get the options screen. On the options screen, there are many different categories and sections. Let’s start off with the basics.
Connect
- Full Name – This is the name that shows when someone does a “whois” on you or scrolls over your name using a jIRC platform. Be aware that this is visible to other people on chat.
- Email Address – Enter your email address here, the one you used to sign up with gamesurge on. Type this in lowercase letters.
- Nickname – What you enter here will be the nickname you enter the IRC with.
- Alternative – This will be your alternative nickname on the IRC if the other nickname is already taken.
Don’t bother with the others here, there’s more to do. Click the cross on the left of connect and you will get more sections.
Servers
Nothing big here, just make sure where it reads “IRC Server” it has GameSurge: Random EU serverOptions
Here are some suggestions for the Options screen. The following things should be checked-
- Reconnect on disconnection
- Pop up connect dialog on startup
- Move to top of list on connect
- Check for timed out connection
Your Default Port should be 6667. If it is not, change it to 6667.
Now bring up the Perform button. Check “Enable perform on connect”
In the Perform commands section, type in what that gamesurge email sent you. It should read something like this-
- /authserv auth name password
Where name and password are is where your name and password go, which should all be in the email.
Hit the enter key to skip a line.
We want to enter the VMKForums channel now, so type this into the next line:
- /j #vmkforums
If you want to join the rest of Nick's channels, type the following below /j #vmkforums -
- /j #toontowncentral
- /j #disneysonlineworlds
- /j #piratesonlineforums
- /j #clubpenguinfansite
- /j #vmktrivia
- /j #toontowntrivia
- /j #piratetrivia
- /j #coldcallersguild
or /j plus any of the other channels found here.
Only type the ones you want to join into the perform box. Click okay to apply this change.
Leave the rest of connect as it is.
Under the rest of the sections (IRC, Sounds, Mouse, DCC, Display, Other), nothing is of uber importance. You can tinker with some of the options in them, however. This guide covers the basics of the mIRC. Click okay to apply the options.
To start chatting type /server NuclearFallout.WA.US.GameSurge.net
You can also find more information about the channels and such here.
Scripts Guide
This is the easiest way to make a normal script to use on people.
While you're in #vmkforums, right click on a person's name. You'll see a bunch of different commands, and one that says "Slap!". By clicking Slap!, you'll slap the person you clicked around a bit with a large trout. You can make other scripts like that, too.
First off, bring up your scripts screen. It's the 5th button on the top of your mIRC, it's green, and it has a /a on it.
Now, there's a few tabs. They read Aliases, Popups, Remote, Users, Variables. Click the Popups tab.
Now on the top of this window, there's other tabs. They are file, edit, view, popup, options, help. Click view. Now check of 4. Nick list.
You should now see a few things on this window. Scroll down to where it says Slap!. Click at the end of Slap! and hit enter once.
The Slap! script should read this- .Slap!:/me slaps $$1 around a bit with a large trout
You can make your own scripts now.
You need to make a name for the script.
I'll pick Poke!
I so first type in .Poke!
Now I need an action for this script.
I type in the action with no spaces right after the ! in .Poke!
My script needs me in the action, so I type in :/me
It should now read .Poke!:/me
I hit my space bar once and start the action.
It now reads .Poke!:/me pokes
You need a target for this action now, so type in $$1
The $$1 will make whoever you right-clicked on the users list to be the target in this script.
Your final script should read .Poke!:/me pokes $$1
You can try other scripts with this outline, this isn't the only one you could make
PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN MAKING YOUR OWN.
If your script contains very violent actions or not G-rated material, an op will ask you to remove it.
