- Hi Priz! Just thought I'd let you know I'll try to add pics to your other room pages sometime soon.

SO I have seen your messages about the templates and saw what you did on the timeline (nice!) But I have yet to figure out how you did it. Is there a list of templates for our pages? I am lost now lol. It seems that you can answer on my talk page? This is new to me --SpinMarty 13:34, 15 August 2006 (CDT)

--SpinMarty 18:05, 16 August 2006 (CDT) I STILL have no idea how you create a template. Actually, I understand the template part but I don't see how you make a new page for a template! GRRR

It's like uploading a new image. You type { {template:whateveryouwannacallit} } and then click on the link, and create it. Simple as that.

I actually feel its more like creating a new page. What I usually (usually? I've done it four whole times. LOL!) is the following:

  • Edit some page where I will test the template (usually the page I will eventually use it on, so I can compare it to how it used to look).
  • Change the text I'm replacing with {{whatever}} (It defaults to the Template namespace, so you don't need to put that in.)
  • Click on Show preview
  • The text will be replaced with a link. Click on the link, and I'm taken to the edit page for Template:Whatever
  • Edit my template and save it.
  • Go back to the page I'm testing it on and click Show preview again, and see how the template now looks.

Confused as to your suggestion about the themes. Do you mean like one page of halloween, one page of christmas, etc.? I haven't really decided on how to do it yet so any ideas are apprecaited.

I finally made it into the Inner Space shop so I can thoroughly add prices, etc. Since we have had several more come on board the quests are starting to shape up nicely.

My next project, well working at the same time, is the public rooms in VMK. Yavn has offered to send me clean screen shots of each of the rooms (ie: no players, words, etc.) Let me know if there are any guest room ones you wish to have.

I see somewhat what you are saying. I agree that having a separate page per theme/grouping makes sense. What I don't seem to see is your presentation. My thought is that I don't wish to change pricing and location information other than in one page which is why I put which category the item is listed under. --SpinMarty 02:07, 5 September 2006 (CDT)

cool but . . .

So I like that idea for the template. I see that it would be easy to collect. My concern is twofold: 1) We would possibly need a list for reference for anyone editing to know where to change the info 2) See the itemTronChair template. I changed the item name to be Tron Cherry to see how it worked across the pages and it failed to change any other page (Chairs, Tron Month) except it's own template. If it does, indeed, change the rest then I am all for this system (provided we come up with a solution for item 1 above.) However, my attempt didn't see the results. --SpinMarty 09:04, 5 September 2006 (CDT)

about my test reply

I think the link within the photo idea may be good (we can even add that to each template). I did, however, do a refresh several times to no avail (yes, I tried that before posting to you in the first place.) I will try at work but the "Cherry" part never apeared on my side in the Chairs section. --SpinMarty 09:10, 5 September 2006 (CDT)

from work test

nope, the item did not change here at my work computer either. But you did mention that it worked foryou. Odd.

Like Checklist

So I like what you did for the lightcycles. That totally works for me. :) I would make four categories, then, for people to not have to have a list they may not wish. Example: category:furniture, category:pins, category:costumes/hats, category:clothing (which is how I have the checklist page broken down!) Then, adding the Category pages to the VMK-TOC players can easily access each list! This would also make it easier for editors to find for editing, adding! It is nice that they can be actually called their title rather than adding "item" ni the front. Thanks! Now, the arduous task of moving it all lol! --SpinMarty 14:42, 22 September 2006 (CDT)

Tag

Tag team editing again lol. You are faster because I am still trying to figure out the price templates. The item templates, however, are making more sense (that and I just copy/paste from ones you previsouly did and change the info :) ) --SpinMarty 09:43, 6 November 2006 (CST)

Thanks for the follow-up on the items. I looked at so many posts yesterday to determine what was up that I was confused about those two items :) (Pink door, ice cube). The forums are an amazing source of info and mis-info :) --SpinMarty 09:01, 22 November 2006 (CST)

Pins/Clothing and Templates

If you agree, I am going to move all of the pins to the current "item" template that you came up with, substituting "furniture checklist" with "pin checklist". I am still debating the clothing/costumes/hats using the same template (obviously adding a "clothing checklist"). I think that the same template can be used for it as well. Reason: ease of adding it to several locations (like you mentioned for the furniture.) The Haunted Mansion Theme page, for example. You can see how it was easy to add the pins to the table. Thoughts? --SpinMarty 09:42, 22 November 2006 (CST)

I think that we can live with the "color" column. As far as the costumes, I have been debating with myself about how to add all of that information that I have been putting with them. A simple idea would be the one that you mentioned, creating a separate page for each costume. Easy to do. As you noticed, I decided to do that with the "theme" pages (which Reebee is making graphics for, BTW :)) I will come up with a format for one of the costume pages and see what you think. It is nice to have to week off from teaching lol. --SpinMarty 09:58, 22 November 2006 (CST)

LOL OK that is funny. You obviously spent your morning mapping out the new room. I have been adding all the info for the items and taking photos to add. Can we say "VMK Addict"? :) --SpinMarty 12:50, 23 November 2006 (CST)
