Trading

  • If you want to trade, ask the player before sending a request. If the player doesn't want to trade, don't take it personally; some people don't like to trade.

If the person agrees, the first thing you should do, to begin a trade, is click the person you want to trade with, and later click the "Trade" button on the person.

If the request is sent to you, and you want to accept the trade, just click accept in the window that pops up on your screen.

If you are asked, but you reject, and, not caring about it, the other person insists in trading with you, and annoys you, reject the offer and click the person, and later click the Ignore button on the person. When the pop-up appears, click accept, and all the messages and interactions the other user tries to create with you will be blocked, and you will not know if he is sending requests to you or even speaking to you; this will cause him/her to leave.

  • Try to offer items of the equal value to the item you're trading for.

In this case, you will have to evaluate the rarity of the items. There are some items, from which very few copies exist, like for example, the Red Haunted Mansion Rocking Chair, which is an item retired in the BETA days and barely anyone owns these items. Having such a rare item to offer for, it implies that you offer more than a single item for it, and if possible, the items you offer have to be rare, otherwise the trader you are trading with will reject.

If you are unsure of the value of an item, ask a friend of yours to guide you, if your friend doesn't know, you could create a post on VMKForums under the "The Price Is Right" sub-forum, located in the Trades Forum.

Note that sometimes, the demand of an item, might overtake the real value of an item, like for example, the Dancing Inferno Magic Pin. If you take a look at it, there are lots of Inferno owners, but few trade it, and most of the people think (although it isn't true), that this pin is the rarest in the kingdom, making it, being an item you will have to offer much more for.

  • If you want to end a trade, be courteous and tell the player you want to stop trading.

This could be a very good thing to do, in order to create a peaceful and nice relation with the trader, so that next time, if you happen to trade with this player again, the player will know you are well-educated and consider your offer better, since you were nice to them.

  • Don't be mean or rude if the player is making an unreasonable offer. Just tell them politely.

Again, kindness could turn into a wonderful offer towards you. If you explain nicely to the player they are making an unsuitable offer, they might replace it with something you are really interested in, and tie the trade with a beautiful ribbon.

  • Never accept a one-sided trade unless you are willing to give your items away.

In case you are accepting to give your stuff away, without receiving anything in exchange, you will be warned by VMK that the trade is one sided, and, therefore, not fair to you. If you are conscious that what you're doing is not fair, go on and click accept, as you know what you are doing, otherwise reject it and go on with the transaction or either end it.

  • If a player is threatening you, report him or her immediately.

Some players try to abuse of their verbal powers by letting you fall into a lie, like for example, saying they will get you banned if you do not give them certain stuff. Stuff like this is completely false, and could make you fall into scammers, so please, if a threaten in a trade is addressed to you, let a staff member know about what the player is doing, by hitting the "Report" button when you click their user.

  • Be sure you want to make the trade before you push "Accept". Many players don't do trade backs.

If you are not absolutely sure if you will regret trading what you are up to offer, don't do it, because if the player is the kind of players that don't do trade-backs, there's nothing you can do against him or her, as it is not breaking a rule, and you already made the mistake.

  • If a player promises to give you codes for the stuff you have, refuse the offer. There is no way for them to give you codes in VMK (and you should never give away your e-mail or instant messenger info, it's not safe).

This might vary depending on who you are trading with and where. If while you are in the game, someone offers a code for some of your items, reject immediately, they won't be able to give you a code inside the game. If you are doing this trade at VMKForums, it is suggested that you ask to receive the code before you give away your items. Once you have the code, enter it by clicking the chair icon on your lower left button of the VMK client, then click codes, and enter it. If you get a confirmation message saying the code has been successful, and you received the item(s) you intended to receive, then proceed with the trade. If you got a mail saying the code did not work, try entering it a couple of times again, if it still doesn't work, don't do the trade, the code was probably made up by the other person. If the code redeems stuff you weren't expecting to receive, then meet the player in game and give it back to him or her, and do not proceed to give what you had offered for the initial code.

  • Wait the other player to enter his/her stuff to the trade window before you click "Accept". If the player asks you to click "Accept" before they put their stuff in, don't do it. You would be agreeing to give your stuff away for nothing in exchange. If they say they have to take off the item or it's in another room, take your stuff out of the trade window. You can wait for them to take their stuff off and start again, or follow them to where their stuff is and trade there.

Doing opposite to this could be very dangerous, as the other player could run away with your belongings and you will never see him or her again. If you have accidentally done this, and the other player has already ran away with your belongings, use Contact Us and let VMK know of your inconvenience. Sometimes, players will be unable to keep on adding stuff into the trade window, as there is a limit, which is of 15 items. If they hit the limit, and want to add more, ask them to give you the stuff and start another trade so that they finish giving you the stuff and then you can give them your stuff. It is not always suggested you do this, as maybe, when you have given away your first 15 items, the other player could run away with them, if the case was inverse from what previously explained.

  • If you get scammed, use the Contact Us form to report it. Let VMK know what happened, including the name of the player, what you lost, and where and when it was. They can check it out and get it back to you.

This is the best thing to do in case you were scammed, although VMK might sometimes be unable to do much with the scam, and you will have lost your stuff permanently. Lately, the anti-scam system has been working better for them and scams are easier to get over from.

  • Remember, treat others as you would like to be treated.

This is fundamental not only in trading, but in the game. This is what VMK is all about; being kind to others.

Sometimes, players create new accounts to scam others and later transfer the stuff into their main account. It is suggested that you are careful when you trade new players. This can be seen as a way of "discrimination" to new players, but it isn't, it really is taking care of your belongings, so keep an eye on new guests willing to trade you. Also, when you trade for Magic Pins, DO NOT trade for X Star Magic Pins(X means a number from 1 to 5), unless you fully trust this person. To get the X Star Magic Pin, just ask the person to give you X separate Magic Pins so that you can later combine them yourself. DO NOT accept combined magic pins, the user could be lying you and, instead, giving you a one star magic pin!
