Where to place non-tradeable on items
I was noticing when I saw that some items that are non-tradeable didn't have it in the template so I put some in. But then I noticed that some of the non-tradeable items had the words non-tradeable in the Cost section. Should they be there, or in the notes. The ones I put in, I put in notes. --CL_Haveamagicalday
I wouldn't go back and change it, but I think in the Cost section would be better. The Notes section gets pretty big as it is. --Prisoner 11:37, 4 September 2007 (CDT)
Broken layouts
Why did somebody put boxes around Released: Re-released: and Retired: dates, it makes it look even bigger. Some of the long templates, now look even longer, because of the boxes. It would have look good the way it was, in my opinion.
Now, it's even when I speak, it looks messy this way, and it makes it look not as good, and less organized.
Looks like Xiaolin tried to do something that really didn't work. --Prisoner 18:41, 2 November 2007 (CDT)
Change Item Template?
Since VMK has changed the names of the items that have many colors to them, and the ones that don't have a color, the color section is blank, there's no need for a color section in the template. The ones that we currently have that don't have the word "Color" in the real name of the item, still has the color of the item. So, do we really need it said twice? I know, if we changed the template, we would have to fix all the furnishings, but it would make sense to do so. Any other thoughts? --CL_Haveamagicalday
We probably have around 250-500 or more items documented. Doing this now would be a nightmare. My opinion, it's too little a change to edit every item's page. --Scootz 19:07, 1 December 2007 (CST) (Talk | contribs)
When Xiaolin and I were linking the names, that was even more than the furnishings, which took two days. So, should it take 3-4 days to fix just the furnishings? --CL_Haveamagicalday
I think we should leave it how it is, It won't hurt to have it.--Nick hms 22:37, 1 December 2007 (CST)
In most of the cases, VMK didn't change the name of the item - we just had it wrong in the first place (or were shortcutting when the word "color" was part of the name) and we're only beginning to notice it now. The "colspan" trick has been working ok for the moment, and I think we should stick with that for the moment. At some point, I think we should switch to using named templates (which will require a HUGE effort), but I don't think we should go there until we have a use for them in place (which requires some changes to the wiki program itself that are pending) and we've thought out the best way to do it. Anyway - let's do nothing big now, and we'll talk about the best way to approach this. --Prisoner 08:54, 2 December 2007 (CST)
What is a name template? --CL_Haveamagicalday
Take a look here for an example. --Scootz 16:21, 2 December 2007 (CST) (Talk | contribs)
What's the difference then, from the template set up we have now for items, compared to that one? --CL_Haveamagicalday
That one uses a template to display the info, and uses names, like name=Figment Hat & Shirt (so it doesn't matter which order you put it in). The one we are using for VMK uses the code itself. it's a lot less flexible. --Scootz 17:04, 2 December 2007 (CST) (Talk | contribs)
What we're calling a "template" now isn't really a template. It is cutting and pasting something, and then filling in the fields. As Scootz describes it, the templates let us set a value against a name. This makes it more flexible for how to make it look in the future, and there are some features we hope to take advantage of soon that let us automatically include templates (or even just parts of templates) that have fields set to certain values. In short (as I keep making long posts) - it is a far more flexible way to organize the info. --Prisoner 17:10, 2 December 2007 (CST)
Ok, thanks Priz and Scoots! I hope that those updates happen soon! --CL_Haveamagicalday
Tempate:Lights ?
Should there be a template made for items that light up? Also, with the pins, should there really be a color section, I haven't seen one pin that needs a color section? --CL_Haveamagicalday
For the template, I agree. For the pins, it's because all items use Template:ItemTableFooter. --Scootz 18:13, 4 December 2007 (CST) (Talk | contribs)R
Oh ok, sooner or later we should probably fix the furniture and pins templates lol. I've added Light-Up Item to all items that light up. --CL_Haveamagicalday
