Weapons

Soon after your adventure begins, you'll receive your first weapon. To equip one of your weapons, use the F1-F6 keys. As you earn new weapons after achieving certain Notoriety levels, these will appear on this page as well. Rollover the weapons to find their descriptions. Your tonic inventory will also be found on this page.

Game Tip Game Tip: If you are about to be defeated in battle, you can hit the T key while fighting and quickly gulp down a health tonic. Your weapon will automatically reappear in your hand so that you can continue to fight, having barely missed a beat.

Opening Your Weapons

To view your weapons, there are two ways:
POTCO Bullet One way is to open your Sea Chest (tab key), then clicking the items icon, Items Icon.
POTCO Bullet The other way is by pushing the "I" key on your keyboard.
POTCO Bullet This menu shows all of the weapons you own, and the type of each one. It also shows how many tonics you have.

Understanding The Menu

Weapons Menu

On the left of the menu, you see small pictures of your weapons. You only see pictures of weapons you own, if you see any black squares, it means you do not currently have this weapon. In the bottom right of the square pictures of the weapons, you see see the letter "F" and and number. That tells you if you push that button on your keyboard, you will automatically take out that weapon.

If you look on the right of the weapon pictures, you see a bar. On top of the bar, it shows you the name of the weapon, amount of experience points you currently have on it, and the level. The bar shows about how much experience you still need before your next level of that weapon. On the bottom of the bar, it shows you the type of weapon you have. This is usually the best one you have, and cannot be changed.

At the bottom of the Menu, you see five circles, with bottles in them. These are your tonics. There are five different types you can buy, and each one does a different thing. To buy tonics, you go to a gypsy, and buy them. If you have bought any, you will see on this menu how many of each one you have bought. In the upper right part of the circle, you see a "x" with a number 0-3. If you do not have any, you will see "x0" and so on.

Land Combat Basics

You'll need to master your weapons if you plan to survive the wilds of the Caribbean.

You will earn Skill Points during battle. Use your Skill Points to learn new skills or to improve skills you already have. To use a Skill Point, open your Sea Chest to the Skills Panel and click on the skill you want to learn or improve.

Combo Skills

When battling with a Cutlass or Dagger, clicking the left mouse button or rapidly pressing the CTRL key will trigger the same basic attack –– such as Hack for Cutlass or Cut for Dagger –– over and over. To launch a more powerful attack, carefully time your key presses or mouse clicks to trigger them in an increasingly powerful sequence.

Combo Skills

If you are in the middle of a combo attack and swing too early or too late, you'll see a "Mistimed" message. Clicking again will start the combo attack over from the beginning.

Upgrading Your Weapons

Better weapons mean more powerful attacks. You'll start out with a Rusty Cutlass, but as soon as you earn enough skill points wielding it, you'll become eligible to use a stronger blade that deals more damage. Likewise, your first pistol will be a Single-Barrel Flintlock which fires a single shot before needing to be reloaded. As soon as you reach Level 5 in Pistol Reputation you'll be able to purchase a Double-Barrel Pistol, which can fire two shots before needing to be reloaded.
