Room Makeover 8 February 2008
Give Us a Room, You Get The Goods!
Each week VMK's HOST_Bella selects a lucky player from the Kingdom (at random) for a Room Makeover. HOST_Bella then remakes the room – for free – using items that are donated to the players and they get to keep!
See the results here, including BEFORE and AFTER pics and tips you can use to make better rooms.
This week:
Bella Builds a Rainbow!
This week, instead of our regularly scheduled makeover, I wanted to show you how to use one of our most common and colorful chairs – but in a new and exciting way! Considering it's a magical month, what could be more magical than Aladdin Flying Carpet Chairs?
These bright and colorful chairs have lots of possibilities. I thought it would be fun to create a fun furniture sculpture with them, in this case, a rainbow!
As with most VMK creations, when making a furniture sculpture, you should start with a blank canvas. I picked an Empty Dark Ride Guest Room and added a fresh blanket of Snow Carpets – so my rainbow looked like it was floating in the clouds (these Snow Carpets perfectly resemble a thick cloud), while using ALR BD Stars Backdrops for the sky. Now I need to build a support for my rainbow.

BEFORE: A blank canvas awaits a masterpiece!
There are many different furniture items that you can use to create support structures for your sculptures, but you should use something that fits with the theme of your room.
You can use Coffee Table Crates, Crow's Nest Barstool Poles, Space Mountain Poles, Blizzard Beach Rocks, almost anything that's stackable! For my supports, I want them to blend in with my cloudy flooring, so I decided to use Ice Cube Chairs.
Now I need to map out my rainbow arch. To do this, I make sure my support skeleton had four rows, each one wider and taller than the one in front of it – this will give each row color and depth.
Since the skeleton support is the most important step in making a sculpture, try not to get discouraged if it takes a few tries to get your structure lined up correctly.

It's gonna look like a rainbow – trust me!
Now to add color! This is where our Aladdin Flying Carpet Chairs come in. The shape, size, and vibrant colors of these chairs give them lots of possibility. Beginning with purple chairs on the outer row I added different color chairs, ending with yellow towards the inside.
(At first, I placed most of the chairs facing outwards, away from the center. This gave me a rather odd, pyramid-looking arrangement. But once I turned the chairs to face inward, towards the center, I was left with a beautiful rainbow!)

AFTER: Somewhere over the rainbow...
Finally, I added a few Royal Cloud Props at the base to complete the ends of the rainbow while two Dreams Castle Turret Chairs create extra seating (not that I needed any with all these Flying Carpets around!). Now my rainbow looks like it's floating high above Sleeping Beauty's Castle!
Try your hand at creating fun and colorful furniture sculptures in your very own room. You never know what you'll come up with! The sky's the limit – and now it has one extra rainbow!
See you next week!
