Shanty.jpg

To keep Pirates from tiring of the same old routine, a captain or deckmaster will lead a crew in a "call and response" song - or sea shanty. The tradition comes from Europe where Irish, British and French sailors sing songs to excite their crews. Sea shanties help coordinate work on deck and keep crews entertained during long voyages.

Here"s an example:

Pull the rope! Haul the line!
(Chorus) The tide be with us! And just in time!
Pull the rope! Haul the line!
(Chorus) Captain bringin? us home just fine!

Throughout the Caribbean there are taverns to keep the thirsty pirates gullet wet. Some of these taverns have entertainment (musicians) arranged for the pirates entertainment. Some of these musicians will take requests for a small donation (usually 5 gold).
