Live Chat Java Window Explanation
The Java window has two main sub-windows.
Nicklist
The section on the right shows the Nicknames (Nicks) of the people in the chat room.
The nicknames with an @ next to them are Operators ("Ops" for short). Those users are responsible for keeping the channel in order and to make sure all of the rules are upheld in the channel. All of our channels are held under the same G-Rating standards and rules as the forums.
The nicknames with a + next to their name are users that have been "voiced" and they are able to talk on the channel if the channel is changed to "moderated". It sometimes becomes neccessary to change the access of the channel to "moderated" because of spammers. This means that if the Operators set the channel to "moderated" anyone without a + next to their name will be unable to chat in the channel. During the time you are on the channel you will see operators granting +v (voice) access to users as they log into the channels.
Chat Window
The section on the left side sub-window contains the details of what is going on in the channel. When you first start you will see a lot of green and maroon writing created as part of the LOGIN process.
Topic Of The Channel
When you log into the Live Chat the first line that is displayed in the channels is the channel Topic. The Topic is also shown at the top of the Java client.
Pay attention to the Topic line, this is important as it gives an idea of the status of the game. Usually it says something like:
[Open Server (1.0.6.4): ONLine] [Test Server (1.0.6.6a): ONLine] [Channel Rated: G] [Website] http://www.toontowncentral.com/.
Channels
The bar on the very bottom of the window will display all of the channels you are currently logged into at the time. To chat in a specific channel, click on the name button of the channel you wish to chat in and it will display that channels main chat window.
Public & Private Channels
As you will notice there are two sections, Public and Private. Live Chat allows you to talk with your friends in the Public channels and will display them in the top portion of that channel bar. If you would like to speak with your friends privately one on one, the names of each private chat will display in the bottom portion of that channel bar.
Public Channels
Public will list all of the main channels that are provided to you when you log into Live Chat. The Public channels will have the names as shown below.

Private Channels
If you would like to have a private conversation with another user of Live Chat then you would find the name in the Nicklist section of the window and click twice on their Nick. A new little window will open up. This is where just you and that person can chat privately.
Command Line
The Command Line at the bottom of the window is where you type in what you want to say (or do) in the channel.
For Example: To say "Hello" you just type Hello then press Enter on your keyboard.
The word "Hello" appears in the Chat Window like this:
<silly_zanny_boing> Hello
As people enter what they want to say you will see the lines of text in the Chat Window, scroll upwards to accommodate the new text. You can use the scroll bar at the side to browse up and find earlier comments.
Events
Events are things that happen in the channel besides the normal chat. Events are usually denoted by a change in the colour of the text in the window.
Actions or Emotes
Actions or Emotes are shown in purple colored text. When you type something to explain that you are doing something rather than speaking that is considered an emote or action.
For Example:
To pretend to hit someone with a trout type:
/me slaps Pudgey around with a large trout
It will produce this:
silly_zanny_boing slaps Pudgey around with a large trout
Joins, Parts, Quits
People entering or leaving the channel will be displayed as
Pudgey (~pudgey@203-30-124-238) has joined the room
Pudgey (~pudgey@203-30-124-238) parts the room
Pudgey (~pudgey@203-30-124-238) has quit
Nickname Changes
Nickname changes are also displayed as green text. To change your nickname once you are in a channel, type /nick <whatever name>.
For Example:
Pudgey wants to change his name to Daffodil. He would type:
/nick Daffodil
It will produce this:
Pudgey is now known as Daffodil
