Once you have registered as a new user, the next step is to creating your VMK character and preparing to enter the game. VMK breaks this process into three separate steps.
Step 1: Choosing a Name, Look, and Guest Room
On this screen you design your character.
Choose a name for your character
Use a pre-approved name or submit your own
- First choose a name for your character. With the April 2007 updates, the option to pick a pre-approved name was added. This allows characters to play VMK without waiting for their name to be approved. To use a pre-approved name, click on the name you want from the list displayed. If none of the names sound good to you, you can see more options by clicking the "Get More Names" button.
- You can still choose your own name, but VMK must approve it first and so until the name is approved, players will be given a temporary name of Guest followed by a number. To choose your own name, simply type the name that you want into the box that says "Please Name Your Character". However, be aware that the name you want may not be acceptable or available. VMK has a strict, but fair, dictionary and so your name must follow VMK values. Your name will flash red if it isn't acceptable. VMK may also give you a pop-up in this step saying your name wasn't accepted. If this is the case, you will have to come up with a new name. Since VMK has lots of players, the name you choose might already be taken by another character. In this case, VMK will inform you that the name is not available and providd you with some other suggestions. Numbers are not allowed in your name. Keep working until you find a name for you, and try to be creative. Think about some of your interests or use a funny quote.
Choose your gender
- Choose whether you would like your character to be a male or a female. Keep in mind that sometimes clothing and costumes are gender specific, so if you want to be able to wear some of the dresses, it would be best to choose a female character.
Customize your character
- Choose how you would like your character to look. Pick a face, skin tone, hairstyle, and clothing. Some clothing pieces are currently only available to new users so an item you want may not be obtainable in game. See New User Clothing for more information. Having a hard time deciding? Don't worry, VMK allows you to change how your face, skin tone, and hairstyle in the game as well so you're free to change your mind later. You can also purchase other clothing in game as well. For more about changing how your character looks in game see Editing preferences.
Choose your guest room
- VMK starts you out with a free guest room which is yours to furnish and enjoy. Choose from the available rooms and pick one that you like. Check out the Guest Room Catalog and Maps to get a better idea about the layout of the available rooms.
VMK Registation Screen History
Before the picture below, there was another registering screen, which was blue and only contained 1/2 pages. The first page to Accept the Rules, and the 2nd to do everything else. There wasn't a "helpful tips" page
Step 2: VMK Tips
VMK gives you some helpful advice in this step. This page informs players about some important guidelines for fun and safe VMK play. For example, this page lets new players know that words or phrases not suitable for VMK blink red. Read these helpful tips and click next when you're ready.
Step 3: VMK Contract
This is considered the simplest step of all. VMK will show you the terms of agreement that states that you'll follow the VMK Values. (You might want to read up on those before you play.) If you promise to be good, and follow the values, then click "Accept." (If you click "Decline", you cannot play.) Then, the adventure will begin. Enjoy your first day in VMK!
